For my SME interview, I interviewed Michael Robinson, Vice President of Healthcare North America at VMware. Michael is also the Managing Partner at Miroventures and serves on the Board of Directors for NovoDynamics, Inc. Dynamic change agent skilled in repositioning organizations into high performing, results oriented, customer-driven teams that consistently deliver exceptional customer value. Most recently, Michael was Vice President for Microsoft’s Health & Life Sciences business in the United States, In this role he was responsible for more than $2.7 Billion in revenue, driving Microsoft’s business initiatives into both commercial and public sector organizations in the Provider, Payer, Life Sciences, Public Health and Human Services verticals. These initiatives included sales, technology partnerships, solution development, marketing, standards and advocacy. He brings to his position over 35 years of sales, technology and management experience.
Michael joined Microsoft in January 2002; previous positions included General Manager Public Sector Middle East and Africa, General Manager New York Metro District and General Manager Mid-Atlantic District
Michael’s background includes roles in executive management, enterprise sales, project management and business strategy development. Prior to joining Microsoft, he served as Vice President Operations for Hitachi Data Systems Solutions Corporation (HDSS), where his duties entailed development, sales and delivery of complex business solutions for HDSS’ customers worldwide.
Other industry experience includes serving as Vice President professional services for Hitachi Data Systems, managing director of services for Sterling Software; president of minority-owned IT consulting firm Robinson-Cole and Associates; and 15 years in various technical and management positions with the New York Telephone Co. He also serves on the corporate board for NovoDynamics Corporation.
Michael is a graduate of National-Louis University in Chicago, where he received a bachelor’s of science degree in management. He also holds an executive MBA from Pace University in New York.
Michael is active in the community; he serves on the Board of Directors for the, Information Technology Senior Manager Forum (ITSMF), New York Urban League (Previous Board Chair), and the Pace University School of Business Advisory Board. He has also received multiple awards for his community commitment including; Harlem YMCA Black Achievers in Industry and the prestigious Frederick Douglas Award from the New York Urban League.
