Interview with David Tibbets, with Tibbets Insurance

Q1)  Do you enjoy the insurance business?

A1) Yes because I make good money and also enjoy the flexibility of having my own hours of operation and the freedom of owning my own business.

Q2) How did you get into the insurance business?

A2) A colleague of mine helped me get into the business.

Q3)  Did you ever work for another insurance firm?

A3)  I worked for another insurance firm for about 3 years before I started my own insurance firm.

Q4) How were you financially able to afford to start an insurance business?

A4) I had to live off of my wife’s income and I had to work a second job in the beginning to cover for the cost of the business.

Q5)  When starting your own insurance business, what were the main challenges of opening your business?

A5) The main challenge was covering for the cost of the business in the beginning. After covering the cost for the start up after a few years, everything started running smoothly for the most part.

Q6) Did you ever have a partner in your business?

A6) I did have a business partner at one point in time but the partner was all about the commissions and did not put in nearly enough time and I had to get out of the partnership because I was putting in way more time than my partner.

Q7) When the economy fell into a recession how did that affect your insurance business?

A7) I just lost customers but had to be smart with my money and I somehow managed to open another business in a different area, a tree service.

Q8) If you could go back would you do anything differently?

A8) No I am happy with what I have accomplished in my life. It took a lot of hard work, but I am successful and do not have any worries.
